Today, Maia is 8 months and 4 days old. Josiah died at 8 months and 4 days old. It's one of those days.
"My despondent mood casts a shadow over everything, even over my faith. On those occasions I find it hard to believe anything at all. But then I gain perspective. I remind myself that suffering is not unique to us. It is the destiny of humanity. If this world were the only one there is, then suffering has the final say and all of us are a sorry lot. But generations of faithful Christians have gone before and will come after, and they have believed or will believe what I believe in the depths of my soul. Jesus is at the center of it all. He defeated sin and death through his crucifixion and resurrection. Then light gradually dawns once again in my heart, and hope returns. I find reason and courage to keep going and to continue believing. Once again my soul increases its capacity for hope as well as for sadness. I end up believing with greater depth and joy than I had before, even in my sorrow."
-A Grace Disguised
by Jerry Sittser
It's one of those days when I have to sink into my faith. When I have to lean into Jesus because there are too many questions without answers, there is too much sorrow and the only thing I can do is to ask God to allow me to feel His presence, feel His Love and for Him to be my vision.
"Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Nought be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Even as I was typing this, my eyes were drawn to the dash in Josiah's life. You see, there is the day he was born (today) and the day he passed away (Jan 24th) but there is all the days inbetween. Josiah lived the dash to the fullest. I know that I had the opportunity experience him up close and personal, but many of you reading this blog post had never been given the opportunity to meet our Josiah. Yet, he has effected many of you in a great way. Why? Because his dash was meaningful. I am reminded of how important it is for me me to live MY dash. I can't live your life, you can't live mine. But if you can still learn something from our precious boy, learn that God has created your life to have great value and meaning. Live your dash. Josiah did.
It's been a crazy 24 hrs around here. We are so blessed to be surrounded by great family and friends who want to share our excitement with us. But it is tiring! Sometimes I feel like we are living out an episode of our favorite tv drama NBCs Parenthood.
But now we have our own family drama. 3 girls. Portrayed in this picture is a proud momma, 2 big sisters, a beautiful newborn and Josiah's little puppy. We miss our little man. Look what he is not going to be part of.
3 girls
3 weddings. 3 graduations. 6 proms. 3 freshman years. 3 first days of kindergarten.
Scratch that. Zero weddings. Zero proms. Zero boyfriends. These little ladies are all mine!
It's a little before 6 on March 23rd. We are packing the xterra and kissing the sleeping girls goodbye before leaving to go to the hospital. Today is a big day.
Erin is being induced this morning, and assuming everything goes to plan we will have Baby W sometime today. We are filled with anticipation and hope. We also have some anxiety mixed in, knowing that our last stay at the hospital was anything but routine.
On days like today, we especially miss Josiah, but I don't miss the fear that surrounded us the morning he was born. We will be a heart that hold on.
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
